It´s not any novelty that most providers look for more traffic and with reduced cost, often looking for solutions such as caches / CDNs from Google, Netflix, Akamai, etc. or even doing bilateral BGP sessions. To do this, you need to know where your customers connect, but how to know which content providers (ASNs) your customers most communicate with?

With a traffic analysis by ASNs or IP / Prefix

asn query

CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a network for content distribution, whether from content providers or specialized companies - a solution that emerged in the late 1990s, today considered a core network solution.

What this effectively means is that it integrates the internet as content replicators from three major distribution centers. In the first, it stores the content, Then, in a second structure, which we call the CDN network, it replicates the content in localized points, mainly in the large PTTs. In other words, it interconnects these infrastructures by building a communication network where the most accessed content travels. And there is a third center, known as the CDN cache.

CDN's negotiate with ISPs who are interested and that consumes a minimum volume of their content by your customers to place a cache in their network

So, when we talk about a Content Distribution Network that has no interest in installing a smaller PTT, we are referring to the second structure, which is a complete structure of them. While the cache is servers made available to be placed within the access providers. When this happens, ISPs need to provide a traffic link to the CDNs, to power these servers, and they also need to provide a minimum infrastructure, with air conditioning, sufficient electricity, physical security, etc. This means that a large content provider could place your content locally, for example, in Belém do Pará, and users who consume your content would not need to come to São Paulo to search for that content. Large CDN networks, that is, large content providers, generally have this hierarchy of content distribution, although not all have the last level (cache).

With Captor it is possible to perform traffic analysis by ASN

There is no need to have the global routing table on the router, just install the Captor and configure your device/router to export the flow packets to it. With the collector configured, it queries the ASN information of IP connections per IP.

That way, even if you don't have a BGP, ASN session or are behind an ADSL, it is possible to analyze with graphs and reports by ASN and Prefix (network) which ASNs had traffic on your network. Captor also maintains a cache of this information, with reports and full configuration of the query and storage process.

Make your provider more professional and use software that gives you a better view of your network, be prepared for the market, use Captor.
